Program Options & Investment
Investing in Training. Reducing Human and Community Costs.
Effective community responses to hoarding require more than crisis intervention – they require a knowledgeable workforce, coordinated partnerships, and sustainable systems that identify concerns early, reduce risk, and prevent repeated crises.
Without appropriate training, communities often experience escalating safety concerns, repeated inspections, increased staff time, housing instability, eviction, homelessness, and unnecessary use of emergency and public resources. The human cost to individuals, families, and professionals – including stress, anxiety, burnout, stigma, and loss of housing – is equally significant.
Our workforce development and professional certificate programs are designed to strengthen community capacity before situations reach crisis, providing practical tools, shared frameworks, and ongoing professional education and support that help organizations improve outcomes while reducing the long-term financial and human costs associated with hoarding.
The Cost of Inaction
Financial & System Costs
- Repeated inspections and crisis response
- Staff time diverted from other clients or residents
- Property damage, remediation, and cleanup costs
- Legal expenses related to lease enforcement or eviction
- Emergency response and public safety involvement
- Vacancy, turnover, and re-occupancy delays
Human & Community Costs
- Anxiety, shame, and emotional distress
- Social isolation and reduced community connection
- Housing instability, eviction, and homelessness
- Increased risk to health, safety, and mobility
- Stress and burnout among professionals
- Repeated crisis cycles without sustainable progress
Investing in effective training is often far less than the cost of repeated crisis response,
eviction, emergency intervention, and preventable human harm.
Training That Doesn’t End When the Class Does
Most professional training ends when participants leave the classroom. They return to their agencies and communities expected to implement new knowledge with little or no ongoing guidance, consultation, support or continued learning.
The Center for Hoarding takes a different approach.
Our goal is to help agencies and communities
build confidence, consistency, and sustainable responses to hoarding.
Unlike traditional one-time training models, our Agency & Community Workforce Development Programs and Professional Certificate in Community Hoarding Intervention are designed to build long-term community capacity – not simply deliver a one-time training. Participants continue learning through continuing education, TEAM Case Consultations, expert guidance, certificate maintenance, and ongoing professional support, creating a sustainable pathway from education to implementation.
